Originally constructed in 1982, Rutledge Hills Apartments comprise 48 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units in Amherst, Virginia, rented to individuals or families earning at or below 50% of the area median income.
Extensive renovations include the use of environmentally-responsible building practices and design features, earning Rutledge Hills an EarthCraft Multifamily Renovation certification. Green elements incorporated into the community include energy-efficient mechanical systems, appliances, and lighting; ENERGY STAR windows and refrigerators; low-VOC carpets and finishes; construction site waste recycling of cardboard, metals, and old appliances; and native landscaping, plus new low-flow bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets, flooring, and roofing; and a community room.
